SEQUENTIAL PERCEPCION DEFICIT by J. MAS
Another disorder considered by some to be the primary cause of dyslexia is manifested by confusion in perceiving and remembering the sequence of sensory input. A child whose basic problem is in visual sequential perception might view the sentence "I saw the dog run " as "was I run the gdo," where both words and letters within wordsare in the wrong order. A child with faulty auditory sequential perception may not develop the general linguistic abilitys many experts believe essential for normal reading acquisition.
In their studies of sequential perception, researchers have found that subnormal readers have trouble identifying digit and figure sequences. This failure appears to be even more pronounced when the sequences are presented in a mixture of auditory and visual forms. Others research has suggested that later reading abilities are more accurately predicted from sequence tests using both auditory and visual stimuli than from tests wich employ only visual stimuli.
